New pesticide transfer requirements take effect for select chemicals in 2025

Friday, February 7, 2025

For a select group of chemicals PMRA has added transfer statements to the label that require a "Closed Transfer System" be used when loading the sprayer.  Some berry products will be effected by these changes.   If you use the following products these may affect you.

Products with standard CTS label statement:

Lorox L Herbicide

Ethrel PGR

Dibrom Insecticide

Products that require CTS without standard label statement:

Bravo ZN Fungicide (bulk totes only, chlorothalonil in 10 L jugs does not require CTS)

Captan 480 SC Fungicide (ADAMA or Sharda) and Captan L (Syngenta) (only if open cab AND exceeding a maximum L/day threshold)

Captan 4 Flowable -requires a closed cab or extra PPE

The WSP Captan formulations do not require this transfer system as they are in a water soluble pouch which limits exposure

Products that may require CTS but not clear on the label:

Sevin XLR Insecticide – “use a closed mixing system”

Dr. Jason Deveau does a great job of explaining the requirements on the Sprayers 101 website.

Continue reading here:  https://sprayers101.com/cts/ for more details about the requirements for a "Closed Transfer System".

These restrictions were added as the chemicals went through the routine re-evaluation process.  As other chemicals go through the PMRA re-evaluation process additional products may require a "CTS" in the future.
