Tuesday, June 16, 2026

Hello everyone.

Finally, we started getting warmer days with alternating rains what is helping all the crops. Overall, in 2026 we have less Degree days compared to 2025, almost everybody is looking for a delay from 7 to 10 days. As you see from Figure 1: We have about 10 % less heat units compared to last year.

The image displays a line graph depicting the increase in degree days from March 1 to June 8, starting from the year 2012 through to 2026.

Strawberries

Fruiting crop

Everybody is going into the harvest now, please keep your spray up to date for Botrytis, Powdery Mildew and Anthracnose, there are several products with pre-harvest interval of 0 and 1 day that you can fit in your spray program.

Planting year/First year

The matted rows planted this year look good, even though everybody is busy with the harvest please remember to do a phosphite (Aliette/Phostrol) to protect the plants from black root rot. Chateau herbicide is working well, if you are going to do also a Sinbar remember to do it after your tillage and before its rain or give it a couple of inches of water with your sprinklers. If you have a grass problem and you plan to apply Venture, please do NOT mix with Sinbar, these products need to be applied with a 14-day interval between each other to avoid phytotoxicity.

In your late blossom varieties, keep an eye on the pests, tap the flower clusters looking for thrips or tarnished bugs. Also, scout for aphids as we are going into the summer, and they are the key for virus transmission.

Blueberries

With rain on the forecast this week, keep your spray applications for disease prevention up to date with fungicides. Carefully select your herbicide with your targeted weeds and take into consideration their PHI. Going into the stage between petal fall to fruit set, it is important to remember do an application for fruit-worm, try to select products that you won’t use for control of Spotted Wing Drosophila (SWD) to save those for later in the crop.

Raspberries

The crop will soon be in bloom stage, please try to apply a fungicide between 10 to 30 % of the bloom. If you are going to use herbicide, please check your PHI and apply it soon. Check the guide and if you have any questions please contact me.
