Since Deb Moreau and her team first detected SWD on August 15th, numbers of catches have continued to climb with total trap counts reaching a high of 960 flies, with a few traps having over 100 flies in a single trap two weeks ago.
SWD have been caught in traps located within blueberry, raspberry, blackberry, strawberry, cranberry, and cherry cropping systems. Traps are believed to give a conservative estimate of actual population size so Deb collected fruit from sites where traps had positive catches and has successfully reared adult SWD from cherries, raspberries, blackberries, blueberries, and strawberries. Several growers have begun actively spraying for this pest.
