From scouting done on May 4, 2018 in the Annapolis Valley the majority of buds are at the F2 stage or further, and mature monilinia spore cups have been found. This coupled with the precipitation and high temperatures we have been experiencing suggests there was an infection period over the last few days. If you had a spray on earlier this week you were likely protected. If you did not, you can still control infections that have already occurred by application of a fungicide with back-action capability (Topas, Mission) within 72 hours of the beginning of the event. It appears that it will be mostly sunny this weekend, which would be an ideal time to get on an application.

As a reminder though these recommendations are based off of conditions observed in the Annapolis Valley, Nova Scotia and may not be applicable to your location. Infection periods only occur when bud development has reached the F2 stage, monilinia spore cups are present, and temperature and moisture levels are ideal. The decision to spray should be based on these conditions being observed in your particular field.
